Michael Myers has not been seen in a theatrical release ever since Rob Zombies 2009 remake of Halloween 2 and now he’s back better than ever.
Halloween was released October 19, 2018, and was directed by David Gordon Green. It is an R rated mystery/slasher movie with a run time of 1 hour and 44 minutes. It’s the sequel to the original Halloween that was released October 25, 1978, and directed by John Carpenter.
The newly released Halloween takes place 40 years after the events of the first movie completely ignoring the original 7 sequels and 2 remakes to the first movie creating a whole new timeline for this crazy universe.
Without giving too much away, this movie follows Laurie Strode (played by the returning Jamie Lee Curtis who played Laurie Strode in the original film) preparing for what she has been worried about for the past 4 decades; the escape of Michael Myers. Laurie has been fearing this day since that one Halloween night in 1978 but unlike her first encounter with Michael Myers this time she is prepared to fight back and protect her family.
Halloween was rated at a 79% and is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, also having a 76% audience score. Rotten Tomatoes is known to be the “go-to” website to see if a movie is good or not, so this is definitely a good sign.
Overall, this is a fantastic movie and met the standard for a sequel of the original if not exceeded expectations due to the recent lack of good horror movie remakes and sequels. It has everything you would want in a movie from its acting to directing, to the soundtrack. I would recommend the film to anyone who likes the slasher movie sub-genre or if you enjoyed the former Halloween movies to watch the new Halloween.
