The Restorative Justice Program is philosophy for students who are causing trouble in school. If a kid needs discipline they will be asked if they want to go into Restorative Justice to talk about their problems.
Heather Gram, the leader of Restorative Justice, says “This philosophy is about giving students more a voice in school.” Students are not the only ones she helps. “I do a lot of teacher training on how to include student voices in the classroom, and how to bring equity in to the classroom,” she added.
Brian Lindhurst, a senior who’s a part of the program, said that it was very eye opening for him. “I have a new perspective on other people’s struggles, and it made me do better in my community.” Since joining Restorative Justice he feels that he has changed, now “treating people much more nicer than before.”
“It is really helpful if you are having conflict with people in the school. This helps the school by making sure people are not getting into fights and making people understand each other,” Junior Aniaka said. “I feel like I can help people and understand them better.”
