Volunteering for the Union City Arts and Wine Festival was a blast last Sunday.
Prior to the festival, volunteers attended a pre-festival meeting and were informed about what to do in the event of a child going missing or a minor drinking alcohol, as well as waste disposal procedures and what jobs we were assigned during the festival.
We also discussed our job duties and when we would be receiving our event t-shirts and lanyards. They were a little behind on the t-shirts so we given them the day of the event.
My shift was from 1-4pm and I was in the group in charge of the Kids Zone. During the festival, I, along with a few other girls about my age, helped kids draw, collect pumpkins at the festival’s pumpkin patch, and made sure the kids were with their parents at all times.
Most of the people in my group were middle school and high school volunteers; each of them were very kind to me and worked well with the children.
Once we were done with our shifts we returned the lanyards and were told we could keep our t-shirts the festival provided as a thank you gift. Overall it was a fun experience, and I would be willing to volunteer again.
