September 10th marked the official NFL Kickoff, the start of the NFL’s 2015-2016 regular season. To celebrate Mr. Brian Glaze, Logan’s new activity director, has declared that the tenth will be “NFL Day” and encouraged students and faculty to wear the the attire of their favorite NFL franchise.
According to Mr. Brian Glaze, Logan’s new activities director and Baltimore Ravens fan, “The purpose of NFL day was just to have students and staff come together, regardless of whether they are NFL fans or not, and show spirit for their teams and school.”
Sounds like a good idea right? So how come barely anybody dressed up? There’s many different reasons, but most seem to stem from the fact that almost nobody knew the event was happening.
“A football day?” Jade Cabug, a senior, said “Nope, didn’t know it was happening!
“I would’ve participated if I knew!” said Arry Perry, a 49ers fan.
An anonymous student was disappointed, “Dang, I could’ve ‘repped’ the Raiders”
For the students who were aware, many were simply indifferent about the NFL day.
Jade Cabug continued, “I probably wouldn’t have wore anything if I did know, I really don’t care!”
“I really don’t care about it” declared Dominic, a Junior and overall Bay Area supporter, “like, I really just have no opinion about it.
Some students were more blunt about it. According to an anonymous student, “NFL Day? Man that’s wack!”
Some teachers have different theories on why turnout was so low this year.
Robert Richardson, Logan’s theatre teacher and New Orleans Saints fan, says that “it may be due to the fact that many students don’t check their student emails. I think everyone got an email about this”
Mr. Glaze attributes the low turn out to the hot weather, “Turn out this year was low due to people wanting to dress cool during the hottest week of the year and to huddle in the shade to keep cool. Completely understandable.” Mr. Glaze is hoping the number of participating students will be greater in the future and “may invite special guests to appear” in the future.
Even though very little people participated, many are still very excited about the upcoming NFL season.
Robert Richardson hopes “that the Saint’s defence gets better, people are discounting us because of what happened last year, and I’m just hoping we can be one of those surprise teams.”
Brian Glaze hopes that “that every game is competitive, my fantasy team wins the championship, and that the Ravens get their third Super Bowl win.”
Reema Shelopal had a very simple aspiration for the season. She “just wants [her] Niners to win.”
Arry Perry’s hopes are even simpler; “Teamwork. Just Teamwork”
