The James Logan library has extended their hours. The library is now open zero through eighth period on Monday through Thursday, and zero through seventh on Friday.

The reason for this schedule change, according to Carla Colburn, formerly the only librarian, is that, “We have added a second full-time librarian.”

“These are normal hours,” she adds. “Being closed before school and after school is not normal. These are the hours we are supposed to be open.”

Indira Chakrabarti, the newly hired librarian, said, “I think it’s great. As a former teacher here, it was sometimes hard to get to the library during zero period because it wasn’t open all the time. So far, the students are giving really good feedback.”

“There’s more ability to use the library and it becomes a space for students to hang out.”
“We have a lot of students who are dropped off early in the morning,” Chakrabarti says, “Instead of sitting in a dark hallway, they can just come here and get a start on homework.”
Anastasia Lopez says, “I think it’s really helpful for students who need resources immediately like books and computers. I feel that this will help many students; especially if they need to study or do their homework before school or after school.”

“The busiest time is before school. The library is totally packed by the time school starts and it’ll get crowded during lunch,” Colburn says.
