Alvarez, Robinson, Masulit and Lee named as captains for upcoming color guard season.
Color guard instructor, Mark Metzer, hand-selected captains for each sections: Rifle, Flag, and Sabre. As well, selected an overall captain, Toni Alvarez, who said she is excited to see the growth in the program as a whole. She said he believes he chose her as an overall captain to “carry out his words.” This season she wants to lead by example and keep structure within the guard.
Rifle Captain, Ryan Robinson, said “I’m excited to perform my last year with friends.” He said his improvement in guard and leadership skills helped him achieve captain this season. He is the only male senior and hopes to be influential to the guard by being helpful and respectful while teaching his skills. He can’t wait to see the guard succeed.
This season, Brianna Lee is excited for the guard’s growth and hopes to get a better vibe from last year. As sabre captain, her goal is to create a good energy and lead so her guard could “be the best they can be. While their annual trip to the world competition in Dayton, Ohio is still in question, Lee told me, “We are planing to go to the Western Regional in Las Vegas.”
Flag captain, Jezzele Masulit said, “I am excited to see the outcome for all our hard-work.” Along with practicing hard on the field, she hopes to inspire and push people to their fullest potential. She feels she got chosen as flag captain for her confidence. She said, “I am confident in who I am & respectful for who they [the guard] are.”
Color guard is working hard to perform at the first football game coming up this week during halftime. With high hopes, they are excited for the audience to see what they have been working so hard for all summer.
