The 80’s themed Netflix original series, Stranger Things, has gained a lot of attention since its release this summer.
The series was released on July 15th and has gained quite a lot of popularity since then. It consists of 8 episodes that range from 52-55 minutes long. Almost more than half of the cast was born after 2001. The actors, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Finn Wolfhard, and Caleb McLaughlin are what make the show lively. You may know Winona Ryder, an iconic 90’s actress known for playing a role in Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. Her hysterical, chill worthy acting in this series will leave you with goosebumps.
Written and created by brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, Stranger Things is about the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy who startles the fictional small-town, where his friends, hysterical mother, the town’s chief, and a girl with telekinetic powers are in search to find him. There is also a sci-fi twist that will have many viewers on the edge of their seats.
The Duffer Brothers managed to make this show truly feel like it was set in the fall of 1983. The graphics, clothing, score, setting, and cinematography are similar to and often compared to the works of Steven Spielberg and Stephen King.
“It has a somewhat creepy and mysterious tone to it but it does have its moments where you laugh… I highly recommend it to anyone who is into Sci-Fi or the 80’s aesthetic,” says Emily Sandoval, who has watched the entire first season.
Although the series has an overall score of 9/10 on IMDb, some people did not think highly of Stranger Things.
“In the beginning, it was very confusing and it had lacked clarity. I was hoping that it would have a lot of action-packed scenes but it didn’t,” said Rupert Yacap, who didn’t even bother to watch the rest of the season.
If you’re someone who is eager for answers to unsolved mysteries, then this show may not be for you. However, I would highly recommend the series to anyone who enjoys thriller mysteries with a twist of sci-fi.
