Erin Dal Porto will tell you that she is a Punk rocker at heart. She will also tell you that Punk music has the power to motivate, agitate, and inspire – qualities often utilized by the best teachers. Consequently, when asked to create a playlist for The Courier, Dal Porto’s choices were heavily slanted towards Punk.
Many of the tracks have been with her at important times throughout her life. From walking down the wedding aisle to cassette tapes that made high school bearable to concerts with her daughter – they all have meaning for any “Rebel Girl.”
Dal Porto put a lot of thought into each and every song she picked for this playlist. Here are a couple of her thoughts on why she chose to put certain songs into it.
“I like how this song captures the youthful exuberance of learning about something that you can get behind and believe in… not because it is how you are raised, but because you are emerging as a person with your own thoughts.” on “Those Anarcho Punks are Mysterious” by Against Me!
“We all have sad stories, and hopefully we learn from them.” on “Real Mean” by RVIVR
“For me, music wasn’t supposed to be only about love and loss. I looked for music that went beyond.” on “Chalk Line” by Strike Anywhere
