This Thanksgiving The Good Dinosaur came out tugging on every heart string. The movie has been anticipated for a while now and merchandise was being sold long before the movie even came out. If you haven’t heard of it, I’ll give you a short summary. It’s basically about a dinosaur, a long-neck, or in more of a professional term: Brachiosaurus, that befriends a human. Keep in mind the meteor did not hit the Earth in this movie, therefore allowing humans to live among dinosaurs. There will be spoilers in this article.

Before watching, I expected a lot of laughs and tears to occur. There were more tears than laughs. It was a great movie, no doubt about that, but it was so depressing. I even heard a kid sitting with his family say, “I don’t like this. It’s too sad.” I would’ve openly agreed with him if I wouldn’t get looked at weirdly. It made me wonder what the other kids were thinking while watching. I also wondered how much of the movie they actually got. For me it was easy to follow and understand.

The theme of family and friendship showed up plenty of times during the movie. Forgiveness was also a main thing. In a way I took a lot from the movie than I thought I would. It taught me that even in the darkest time, you have to be fearless. Fear conquers a lot if not handled and dealt with from the start. The Brachiosaurus, Arlo, has to go through that obstacle of fear.

The human, Spot, had lost his family and basically searched for companionship in Arlo. Arlo hated the human, for he was stealing their families food for Winter. He mainly blamed him for the death of his father. Dramatic, I know. Eventually, Arlo learns to like Spot. If it wasn’t for Spot, he’d probably be dead on his journey back home.

It was the fourth biggest Thanksgiving debut ever, which I don’t think is half bad. Most reviews were good, not great. Even then, it was still a great family movie. I hope most of the kids take Arlo’s brave behavior into consideration the next time they feel scared.
