A once missing 15 year old teen, Deavahnee Laws, from Union City has recently been found about 2,000 miles away from home; in DeKalb, Illinois. She was reported missing on September 18, 2014.
Unfortunately, Lewis isn’t the only child that’s been abducted recently. Hundreds of thousands of children were abducted from relatives or non-relatives throughout last year, according to NCM&EC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children). Also from the same source, with the help of the Amber Alert program, hundreds of children’s lives were saved.
Although we cannot control the decisions of other people, we can take some precaution to prevent it. Teaching people to run or defend themselves against danger is key. Keeping a friend company, like accompanying them to a place, to help ensure their safety. Lastly, be aware of your surroundings. Be safe, Colts.
