The Math Club is sponsoring the American Math Competition so that interested Logan Mathematicians can sign up free of charge.

The American Math Competition is a national event that aims to challenge student’s mathematical thinking, comprehension, and problem solving. The test is comprised of 25 questions and is 75 minutes long. The competition is offered at two different levels, AMC 10 and AMC 12, depending on the student’s math experience. AMC 10 is for students who finished Geometry, while AMC 12 is for students who have finished Algebra 2.

“This competition is open to anyone who likes math and enjoys problem solving. You don’t need to be in Calculus, or even pre-cal, to be able to take it,” said math teacher and Math Club advisor Kenneth Prucha. “I have a lot of resources on my website site as far as handouts formulas and old exams, so that students can get a feel for it. Some students like to mention it on college applications, but the main goal is to get kids to do some challenging math problems.”

The competition will be administered on February 17th immediately after school. The location is still to be announced.

The deadline to register is January 10th. If you’re interested in competing, visit Mr. Prucha in room 51 or 52 during lunch or on his website https://sites.google.com/a/nhusd.k12.ca.us/mr-prucha/amc-10-12.
