James Logan is known for its tremendous band program, amazing speech and debate teams that dominate in tournaments, Academics, and also our sports that go all out in all of our games and matches.  The James Logan wrestling team, both boys and girls, is one of those that contributes to our great reputation in sports, and the future is looking bright for the 2018-2019 season.

In the 2017-2018 season, the boys team combined for a record of 6-0 in all of their dual meets, and plan to keep their undefeated streak in their dual meets in the 2018-2019 season.

“I feel really prepared. I feel like I put a lot of work in over the summer,” Senior Abdul Mesuienyar said. “I feel like our team is really good. I am a transfer from Seattle and since I’ve been here I have seen them work very hard.”

That confidence was apparent as the boys won 1st place out of 37 teams at the 52nd Annual Peninsula Wrestling Invite on Dec.1 at Half Moon Bay. Ten Colts placed top 7 or above including Senior Devin Garcia and Freshman Roland Baca who both took first place.

The girls side of the wrestling program is equally impressive. Last year the Logan girls wrestling team placed second in NCS and has already seen early season success.

Junior Lizette Rodriguez

“I feel like my team has a lot of potential and they are very hard working.  And when it’s go time, it’s go time.” Junior Lizette Rodriguez said.

Historically, the Logan Wrestling program is a model of success. Logan annually hosts the top NCS Student-athletes in the CIF State Wrestling Tournament, and regularly places in the top of the section. Logan returns some great wrestlers from last year’s team.

Rodriguez is one of those returning members. During the 2017-2018 season, Rodriguez posted a 29-3 record and looks to repeat that success this year.

Another representative from the Girls team, Junior Beyonce Garcia, posted a 36-11 record during the previous season and placed 3rd in NCS. Garcia, who also qualified for state in 2018, weighed in on how prepared she felt for her team coming into the season.

“I feel like we have a lot of things we need to work on as a team, you know like building our confidence,” Garcia said. “I feel like we are kind of prepared.”

The James Logan wrestling program is looking very promising going into this 2018-2019 season and further on into the future.
