The James Logan varsity football team did it again. They brought home another win against the San Leandro High School pirates. The nail biting game ended with a close score of 26-20. So far, this leaves Logan with a record of 2-0 for the 2015-16 season.
The 2nd quarter was where the game started to become tough, but the mighty colts came prepared. The first touchdown of the game was made by Sean Simpson, captain and wide receiver. Simpson says, “We watched a lot of film, tendencies on everything, what they do all the time, and we just prepared the whole way.”
The Pirate’s offensive line was tough to beat, but Logan kept charging. A total of three interceptions were made by Logan in just 2 quarters. “I feel that there was more of a fight” says receiver Sir Jordan Smith, “ at the last game there was a battle, but this one was worth more when you think about it.”
Ahmari Davis, running back and safety made a touchdown in the third quarter, but unfortunately got injured. Luckily, he rubbed some dirt on it and came back to play for the 4th quarter. The last touchdown of the game was made by wide receiver, Nashon Wright, with only 2.8 seconds left.
There was a trophy that was passed from San Leandro to James Logan. The deal is that whichever team wins the game earns the trophy. “It’s a battle of the corridor which is a big rivalry between us and San Leandro,” explains coach George Zuber, “we started that because I coached at San Leandro, I actually played at San Leandro, so we have a great respect for that program. As soon as we could get it together, when I came here, we started playing each other on an annual basis, and this is the trophy for us. It’s a lot of fun.”
The Logan Colts have kept the trophy for themselves many times. “We’re 4-1 with the trophy, but they give us a great game every year,” says Zuber.
The James Logan stadium will be filled again with fans on Friday, September 11th, where the mighty colts will play San Ramon Valley at 7:00 p.m.
