This year tech-savvy students have been introduced to a new AP computer science teacher, Ms. Maryann Michalowski. A former University of California Scout, Michalowski will be teaching fifth, sixth, and seventh period AP Computer Science in room 61.
An AP Computer Science student who asked not to be named has said that Ms. Michalowski is very “unique.” “She said that I’ll be very confused the first month, but i’ll get it.” The student said that they were “hoping to get a free GPA boost out of the class, but it looks like that’s not happening.”
Another student who asked not to named stated that “Ms. Michalowski seemed like the type of teacher whose very strict but artsy and a has a specific vision of the class.”
Michalowski is highly qualified for the job, having first discovered computer science at a National Science Foundation summer camp at the age of 16.
“I found two loves that summer, a cute boy and computer science. Honestly it was love at first ‘byte’!”
Since then Michalowski has worked as a computer programmer, coder, and has written code for video games. “One of my fondest memories has to be writing video games for my kids. They were really simple, just lines in the shape of a motorcycle and a ramp. I still remember my kids yelling ‘jump jump!’ while mashing the J key.”
Michalowski says that the “size of Logan is daunting, but the students have been nice and the faculty has been helpful. I’m loving it!”
Ms. Banther, the veteran AP Computer Science teacher, will continue to teach first, second, and third period AP Computer Science.
