It has come to the attention of many students that the beloved and well known Logan Culinary Arts class teacher of many years has recently retired. It is unfortunate but the show must go on.
Luckily, Craig Barnard otherwise known as “Chef” to students, has gladly taken on the role for the 2016-2017 school year. He has previously taught at the county jail and enjoyed his time there very much but says he is excited for what Logan has to offer.
Barnard was asked about what his thoughts were going into the school year and how the school year has been so far. He said that he was “excited with the new opportunity, [he] knew it would be challenging with six periods, but [he] looked forward to building a new kitchen in the future”.
The new chef stated that his favorite food project so far in the school year was Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead. His classes prepared Mexican foods, made sugar skulls, and created an altar with offerings to honor the dead. Barnard seems to be very thrilled for the future and he plans to eventually have a garden to grow the food supplies for his culinary classes.
Barnard sees potential in many of his students that wish to make a career out of cooking and says, “the large majority are learning to cook and enjoy food”. He is pleased to be getting to know his students and he hopes to teach at Logan for as long as possible.
