The Colts basketball team played an intense game against rival, Newark Memorial High School last Friday at Logan. The Colts won 54-52 and are now 12-6 for the season.
The Cougars scored the first quarter making the score 2-0. Logan scored soon after making the score 2-2. Point Guard, Andre Reyes, scored 3 points for the Colts and the quarter ended 17-9 with Logan in the lead.
Fans stood up from their seats when there were only 3 seconds left of the game. Shooting Guard, Micah Webster, shot 2 free throws, missing the first, but making the second. Newark tried to score the last second of the game, but the ball bounced back off of the rim, making the score 54-52.
“I felt really nervous, but at the same time I had to go into a state of mind and confidence and win it for the team,” says Webster, “it’s been a long time for us and now we got the win.”
“It was all a blur to be honest,” says Shooting Guard, Nabil Keyro, “all I remember is we got the win and everyone ran onto the court.”
Point Guard, Jordan Gilmete said, “My heart was racing and I got scared. I just wanted the win.”
Logan will play Mission San Jose at Logan on Tuesday, January 26th at 7:30 pm. Mission San Jose is 3-14 this season, so they shouldn’t be a tough team to beat.
