On November 13th, the cheerleaders competed at American Canyon High School, our 2nd competition of the season, and qualified for Nationals.
Nationals is held in Anaheim, where teams will be competing at the Anaheim Convention Center and going to Disneyland. This trip is usually about 5 days, and within those days we do practice a lot and bond as a team. In previous years the team had attended Nationals but struggled to qualify due to different teams every year. It is an accomplishment for us to be qualifying for Nationals this early in the season when we do have 2 more competitions left until Nationals.
Alyssa Caparas, a Freshman, said: “after watching the video of our competition, I felt really good and proud of us. I didn’t feel as proud of myself because one of our stunts fell and I thought that ruined the whole routine, but we got back up and resumed. As a whole, we did hit motions sharp that made our team look strong. For our next competitions, I’m super confident on the dance and the motions but I’m not too sure about harder stunts.”
Pricellia Ortez, a Junior said: “ I feel as a whole, we were very successful on Sunday. At our last competition showed us that we still need improvements. I’m very shocked about qualifying and even more shocked we placed. I honestly do think we are going to progress from our first competition to our last. We can move up if we continue to improve, I am positive we can take first or second place. I was nervous but I have not felt this confident about our routine in a long time until this year and I hope we can satisfy our coaches expectations.”
For many returning cheerleaders, it was also their first time competing at American Canyon. The routine became a bit more difficult after the Santa Cruz Competition. As a whole, we are a good team, we want to become the best and we have done everything right so far to be the best at the end. It does take a lot out of each cheerleader to make sure everything in our routine hits. I am proud of how this season has been and of these accomplishments we had made so far. As the season continues, the team will strive to become the best.
