Joy in Motion’s cabinet members advertised their club to the crowd of students scavenging for free handouts at the club recruitment fair on Sep. 9, 2025. To promote themself, they put Ghirardelli chocolates on display as their reward for signing up to help them stand out from the crowd.
Club recruitment fair is the first chance clubs are given to push their club and first meeting out to the students of JLHS. Members often inform curious students who stop at their stand about the details of their club and what it stands for.
“So our club is basically about exploring different medical occupations,” said Janny Corpuz, a junior at JLHS and co-president of Joy in Motion. “and allowing people to get a glimpse of their potential future and what they want to take up.”
Joy in Motion is a medical, career-based club that teaches students about the different professions in the medical field and gives them an inside look at professions they might be interested in. However, the club does not limit themselves to the different career options; the club also strives to be active in their community and give back to their community.
“In our club, we offer volunteering opportunities in different hospitals or homeless shelters, or nursing centers.” said Corpuz. “And then we also provide internships so that people within our club can also get the experience.”
The club has formed connections with different programs to offer to their members. Joy in Motion wants to give students multiple opportunities to experience different types of volunteering and give their members more experience in a medical setting.
“It’s not only about, like, giving back, but it’s also obtaining, like, skill developments that they could use for their future.” said Corpuz. “I feel the skills that we learn and the knowledge that they gain will be helpful for their health in general.”
One of Joy in Motion’s many goals as a club is to teach their members the different paths they can take in medicine and give them the tools to pursue different fields. The club tries to space out their meetings to give members enough time to finish projects from the last meeting.
“We also want to, like, give an opportunity for people to actually make stuff for a healthcare worker, for example.” said Corpuz. “We only do it once a month so that people actually has time to make something. And then, next meeting we can get those things back and then we can send it off.”
Joy in Motion meets once a month and gives members plenty of time to finish what they need done. Members are able to take as long as they need to finish notes or gifts and reconvene with the club to turn it in.
While the club only meets once a month, members don’t have to worry about missing content if they can’t go to a meeting. Joy in Motion attempts to be inclusive to all members even if their schedules overlap with the meetings.
“We also want to keep people kinda up-to-date with our meetings, if they can’t attend our meetings, we wanna at least provide a summary of what happens-” said Corpuz. “… in the meeting so that no one kinda misses out.”
Joy in Motion’s Cabinet is not strict about the attendance for their meetings. As of Oct. 9th, 2025, the club had their first meeting in room 424 full of ice-breakers activities.
On Oct. 21st and the 23rd, 2025, J.L.H.S will have another club fair for Halloween and Joy in Motion will be convincing students to join again on the 21st. Those who missed the first chance to join the club have another opportunity soon.
“We use Joy in Motion because we say, “Where passion turns into action.”
said Janny. “But yeah. I feel that kinda encapsulates our club really well because we really wanna allow people to see what they’re passionate about and then actually make a difference.”
