During Thanksgiving break, the James Logan marching band traveled to Buchanan High School in Fresno to compete at preliminaries and championships.
Logan took first place in the preliminaries, but at championships, due to weather conditions, they were not able to perform for the judges. While the band didn’t perform, they still won by default. However, this marching season ended with a bang. For the seniors, this was their last time competing for Logan and many of them felt they ended their Logan band experience on a good note.
Christian Paraiso, a senior tuba player, thought his last year playing for Logan was one for the books: “I was disappointed that we couldn’t perform for one last time, but I thought I ended my career well.” Christian has been a part of the band program since his freshmen year, and winning first place at preliminaries was a great accomplishment.
Another senior, Francesca Ramos, also enjoyed her experience while being in band. Francesca, a percussionist, reminisced about her multiple times performing for the band in various competitions. She says, “[My time here] consisted of a lot of hard work and I’m glad I got through it alive. Preliminaries was one of our best runs and even though we didn’t perform at championships, everything was worth it.”
Although the James Logan band will say farewell to many talented seniors after this year, the program will continue its strong legacy. Their season was one of the best in recent years, and is one of the many reasons why the Logan band is considered one of the top high school band programs in the nation.
