Every year Great America hosts their annual Halloween Haunt. If I could describe the event in two words it’d be scary and dubstep, a whole lot of dubstep. The event carries on through October. The last day of the event is Halloween night. This was my third year attending and I can say honestly that it gets better everytime. The shows and haunted houses, or mazes, are thrilling as they should be.
The only complaints I had about my night there was the parking and the enormous amount of people there. There’s no denying it’ll be crowded from now on since everyone likes to go at the last minute. Other than that it’s worth the waits in line and bumping into a few people or so.
The main audience there was mainly teenagers, but the variety in age was quite surprising.
My favorite part of the whole night was the show, Academy of Villains, located in the Theater Royale next to Flight Deck. The jokes are a little more adult like since it isn’t a regular night at Great America. The host was brilliant and very hilarious. The show took us through a story of a bunch of scientists (who can dance) that have to stop an alien invasion then zombie one with the power of music.
I was not able to go through every maze, but the ones I did go through I enjoyed very much. The first one I went into was the Corn Stalkers. The maze was made up of a bunch of hay. At first it wasn’t too bad, but as I went farther in is when the scarers came out. Lots of them blended in with the hay so I was easily fooled great amount of times. At one point you have to decide which way is better to go. If you do decide to wait in line for this one, I can honestly say that it’s worth it.
The second one I went through was the Toy Factory. The structure and decorations of the maze were very impressive. The lights really set the mood to be… well scared. Probably the most creepiest thing about the maze was the music they played. On a scale of one to ten I’d give it a seven.
Roadkill Roadhouse was my favorite because I was scared throughout the whole thing. The set-up was brilliant and the amount of fake blood was generous. The scarers were dressed up well for the occasion. I got scared nearly every corner I turned.
The scare zones were very entertaining too because basically you don’t have to wait in line to be scared or entertained. They have drummers, dancers, and scarers running around all night. Plus, with all of this stuff to see you can still go on rides.
Personally, I would go again and I recommend you to get in on the fun too, but don’t wait too long, October is almost over.
