It wouldn’t take many to tell you that being unfriended or “unfollowed”, as we say now, is not a nice thing. In fact, it’s a feeling that most would never want to feel in their lives. But in the case of, Laura Barnes, even the dead don’t want to feel that horrible rejection.
Throughout the film of, Unfriended, it was hard to find the point of the story. Aside from the fact that cyber-bullying is bad, the only thing that the film was doing to its audience, was not educational, but boring. Giving the fact that this film didn’t live up to its super scary “cyber-bullying is bad and will cause the person you bullied will come and kill you and all your friends” deal that it promised, it was still a pretty stupid movie. but let’s not judge too hastily before making a complete judgement on the film. Let’s dtart off by saying that the film teaches the audience something about cyber-bullying and that betraying your friend can possibly cause you your life. But aside from that fact, the film never really shows the story of how cyber-bullying can cause such terrible things to happen. Hollywood just wanted to make more money by showing “what if this happened after you bullied someone you knew” and though that’s fine, it still never did the one thing movies are meant for, entertain. Unfriended failed to entertain. Not only did it fail to entertain, but it didn’t even live up to its name, literally.
The main character simply “Unfriended” the dead person on Facebook and that caused the ghost to start killing people? And it never made sense how the ghost was killing people, the person would just happen to see the ghost of Laura and then start to kill themselves. But before we go on let us take a moment to understand that ninety percent of the film was the characters typing, but the entire film was a computer screen. This caused the audience to only stare at one place on the screen the entire time and miss little things that happened throughout the film. This caused major confusion and gaps throughout the story.
Although I would think, that the film must suck because of the performers, true, that was nearly the cast for this movie because nearly the entire cast were unknown actors, the leading lady was one that we have seen hit the screen before, showing her face in the CW television series, The Secret circle (for their one-season ride), Ouija (playing a minor role) and Teen Wolf (as her new start in something that will most likely come to an end too) and that is Shelley Hennig. Hennig is the only actor in the film with some sort of experience in the film, aside from the few acting classes that the others have taken before as well. Aside from the bad acting, bad storyline… nearly bad everything, the film still would make everyone think twice before they put some horrible about someone else on the internet… again.
This film is Rated R for slight nudity, inapproperiate images, behavior and foul language. But aside from that, no one will be making a memoir for the unfriended.
