What starts off innocent, can sometimes become the complete opposite. According to DoSomething.org, about 1.5 million boys and girls that attend high school were reported to be physically harmed in the last year with someone they were romantically involved with. Also what follows are relentless consequences that tend to be short or long term.
6 out of 10 women experience rape in either their homes or a friend or a relative’s home which goes against the belief that it mostly happens in dark alleys.
Womenhelpingwomen.org states that early in the relationship there are not always recognizable signs that point out that it will later become an abusive relationship. Although, they provide some warning signs to remind you that some things aren’t okay.
- If he/she attempts to control you
- Puts you down
- Dehumanizes you, makes you feel like you have no right to say “No.”
- Isolates you from family or friends
- Pressures, threatens, or force into sexual activity.
The James Logan Health Center is a place for counseling and medical needs, it has been aware of the problems happening in teen relationships around our school. They would like to educate us to prevent, or support victims at JLHS. A wall will be set up that will be open for students that would like to pledge against domestic abuse.
