Over time, people have developed the superstition that any Friday that lands on the 13th of the month, will be a day of bad luck. Many people will completely ignore the superstition, while others cautiously go about their day.
There are many different explanations and origins of this superstition. People have already separately labeled Friday’s and the number 13 as cursed. The most popular theory of why the day Friday and the number 13 is cursed, involves Christianity.
Many people have different viewpoints on this day, and everyone has their own opinion. When asked their thoughts on this ‘unlucky’ day, there were a variety of answers.
Q:What are your thoughts on Friday the 13th? Do you believe that it is an unlucky day?
John Perez: I don’t care about this superstition. I actually like Fridays, no matter what the date is. I’m not a very superstitious person to begin with. I’ve walked under ladders, spilled salt, broke mirrors, and a lot of black cats have walked in front of me. I mean, I did have some bad things that happen, but I don’t blame them on superstitions.
Arthur Biyok: I’m kind of on the edge with this day. Like, I don’t take it seriously. If something bad happens on Friday the 13th, then yeah maybe I’d blame it on the day. But otherwise, I don’t make a big deal out of it. I just go through this Friday like its any other Friday.
Tara Tomas: I actually do believe that this day is unlucky. I’ll acknowledge that its Friday the 13th, and I’ll watch my actions. I don’t go too crazy over it, but I do watch out for myself.
Alan Huang: I hate how people over-dramatize this day. It’s not a big deal. It’s just a myth. I don’t see how a day can be ‘cursed’. It’s completely up to you if you have a good day or not. The superstition of Friday the 13th is not real at all.
Ariell Sunga: I feel like it is real, but at the same time I don’t. I sometimes feel like it’s just all in our heads. If something bad happens on this day, I kind of see it as just a coincidence. But I don’t know, people seem very convinced that this day is cursed.
