Alessia Caracciolo, more known as just Alessia Cara is 19 years old and is from Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Prior to her increasing fame, she would post covers on her Youtube channel. She was 10 when she learned how to play guitar and at 13 she began her channel.
Cara has an R&B styled voice and is signed to EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings. In April of this year, Cara released her first single titled “Here.” The song is about her bad experience at a party. Soon after it’s release, it began gaining popularity. She then went on to sing her song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Here” also won a Streamy award for Best Original Song.
In August 2015, Alessia decided to release an EP of 5 songs titled “Four Pink Walls.” The EP does include “Here” and four other original songs titled “Seventeen”, “Outlaws”, “I’m Yours” and a song named after the EP itself.
“Seventeen” is the opening track and it is a very pop song, but Cara’s R&B vocals make it sound very rich. The song is about being seventeen and feelings of that age. There is little whistles during times and it is really fun to listen to.
“Here” is the second and most popular track, as previously said… the third track is “Outlaws” and it has an old school feel. The beginning of the song sounds like the crackling of an old vinyl. The song seems to be about two people and how they’ll never be alone. The lyric, “ We’ll take on the world, together” makes it seem as if two people agree that they are meant for each other.
The fourth song “I’m Yours” is upbeat and in the song it sounds like there is complaining about being in love with someone and not wanting to be. Alessia’s soft vocals, but still soulful vocals complete the song.
The last song named the same as the EP is very R&B, and it isn’t straight on singing. There’s a chill vibe pausing during the words. I can’t explain it, it is a hip-hop like song. It ties this entire EP together with its upbeat symphonies, soft and it even has back melodies all recorded by Alessia.
This EP is great, but it is all sort of similar, which it isn’t a bad thing. Hopefully, next year when Alessia releases her entire album she plays around with her vocals more.
