Alessia Cara should be a familiar name, the young star has been everywhere since her hit song, “Here”, slowly made it’s way to the top of the charts.

Alessia released her album, Know-It-All, earlier this year and it has become an album that captures the various stages of one’s teenage years in 13 3-4 minute tracks.

Alessia has been on tour, her US leg having just ended. I was able to attend her show at the Fillmore, in San Francisco.

She had three opening acts, Leaf, who hyped the crowd up with her rap songs about female empowerment. Craig Stickland, who also happens to be her band member, served some amazing vocals, capturing the audience with his flawless high notes, and Kevin Garrett, who is a more well known soul-pop musician. He mesmerized the people with his piano sounds, electronic beats, and oh so relaxing voice.

After Kevin performed, the crowd waited for what they were here for. The venue went dark, and intro music made up of Alessia’s background vocals hit every inch of the room, it was time. The singer appeared from the side of the stage and started off by singing I’m Yours, which is one of her more upbeat songs. Cara has very nice stage presence, she did not have a choreographed dance, but she was not boring. She moved around and interacted with the crowd.

She went on to sing her newest single, Wild Things. The first thing I noticed is that the lights changed colors, and I noticed that every song was a different color. Cara also sang some of her more slow ballads, like my personal favorite, Stars. She also wowed the crowd with her incredible high note in Stone.

She thanked the people multiple times and she looked so genuinely happy to be performing her music. At one point she took it back to the past, and sang her cover of Sweater Weather by the Neighbourhood and played the guitar along with it. That is one of the covers she did that helped her get discovered. Before that she asked the crowd to sing along to Here, and explained how the little song changed her life. The show ended with her singing My Song, and her coming down from stage to touch everyone’s hand as sort of a thank you.

After the show, I had the pleasure of meeting the singer and she is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. She is so grateful for everything, and she just is so caring. Alessia Cara is taking over, and she is spreading such good messages about self acceptance. I would definitely recommend you attend one of her shows on her second leg of the Know-It-All tour over the summer!
