Logan’s blood drive had another successful year.

The American Red Cross organization came and withdrew blood from donors on Wednesday from 8am to 3pm.

Upon interviewing the supervisor, Tonya, at around noon, it was confirmed that already 21 pints of blood have been donated. She confirmed that the Logan blood drive, like all school blood drives, was a “pretty good turnout.” “At schools,” she said, ”[they] get the best products.”

Leadership students volunteered throughout the whole day. They helped register people that had signed up. Also, after a person donated blood, at least one volunteer was required to walk the donor to their classroom to make sure they didn’t faint. Once the blood drive was over, they helped clean and pack up all the equipment.

Overall, there weren’t any problems during the blood drive. The worst thing that happened was a few people had bad reactions. They made sure that there weren’t any problems by turning away people who didn’t qualify to donate blood.

“[A lot of] people signed up, but many of them weren’t able to donate blood because of weight restrictions and other issues,” one volunteer running the sign-up sheet said. “There was a lot of requirements that they didn’t meet.” For example, people who had tattoos, recent vaccinations, or taken a trip out of the country were not able to donate.

It was planned that each donor would be given a pint of ice cream. They had coupons to distribute to donors and they would go pick up the ice cream later on. However, they ran out of coupons and ended up giving everyone shirts. To make sure that the donors’ blood-sugar levels stayed up, there were juice and snacks located at the site.
