Mafia III’s protagonist Lincoln Clay brings players into the city of New Bordeaux of 1968 to experience the blood-boiling gang fights and the inspiring efforts of opposing social injustice.
Mafia III is now released on October 7, 2016 by Ubisoft. The game takes place in New Bordeaux, a fictional recreation of New Orleans, and revolves around Lincoln Clay, an orphan and Vietnam War veteran, who is on a mission to destroy the Italian mob and build a new crime organization to replace it.
The story begins with Lincoln Clay returning home to New Bordeaux from Vietnam. He returns to his surrogate father who is the leader of the black mob. The black mob owns debt to the Italian mob that is run by Sal Marcano. Clay pays him back by doing a heist, but the mob is ultimately betrayed by Sal Marcano and Clay sees his friends getting slaughtered. Clay survives and vows revenge to destroy the Italian mob.
Mafia 3 setting is gorgeous and the story is well written. Unfortunately, it did not live up the expectations of what an open world game suppose to be. The repetitive side missions did not give players the “open-world” feel that most had expected. Overall, Mafia III brings players back in time and challenges players to experience the culture of the past. In blood and bullets, Mafia III also presents a message that leaves players in thoughts.
