After the recent election, people have decided to express their feelings in different ways.
Two art teachers, Ms.Collins and Ms.Curson, were talking about how the campus had a very negative vibe. They wanted to find a way to let students vent in a positive way. They were inspired by the artist Candy Chang, who created an interactive wall for people to write their goals on. Candy transformed an abandoned building in her community into a chalkboard wall, stenciling it with the phrase “Before I die I want to _____”. Ms.Collins and Ms.Curson decided to put up papers that students could use chalk to write their hopes and plans on, stenciling papers with “After this election I plan to _____”.
Many students took this opportunity to express themselves and document their goals. After this election, James Logan students plan to spread love, be hopeful, be strong, vote in the next election, continue to fight, and move on. One student, Andrea Buenrostro, thinks that “it’s a good way for people to think about what they’re actually going to do” and hopes to “encourage as many people as she can to vote in the future”.
However, a few students didn’t take this seriously. Among the less serious comments were a few hateful comments. Ms.Collins understands that in negative time, some people use humor to cope with difficult situations. She also was happy that other students took it upon themselves to edit inappropriate or vulgar comments.
If you are feeling scared or threatened after this election, just know that like the chalk on the wall, your feelings will fade.
