Throughout the school year “Student of the Month” certificates are handed out by various teachers. The person behind this kind act is a Life Skills teacher named Mrs. Cross.

When she first came to Logan, Daryl Camp, a math teacher who later became administrator, was in charge of the program and no longer had time to continue.

When he hinted to Mrs. Cross that he needed someone to continue, so she gladly took up the job. Seventeen years later she is still handing out certificates.

Since this isn’t an official school monitored thing like an Honor Roll, there is a bit of reaction to it. She feels that there is a mixed reaction between the students who earn one and those who don’t.

When there is a student who earns a certificate and the rest don’t, it could make the others feel like they haven’t worked hard enough. But the student who earned the certificate can earn a confidence boost and feel happy about the work they put in.

The process of choosing a student of the month is pretty simple.

First, Mrs. Cross sends out an email to all the teachers sometime during the month asking if the would like to participate. If they choose to participate the teachers email back their one or two names.

Mrs. Cross then takes the names a prints them out onto a templated certificate. Then a sticker and the principal’s signature is added to it.

Lastly, Mrs. Cross puts the certificates in the teachers’ inboxes, ready for them to sign, add a message, and give to the deserving student.
